Deep Sea Fishing Review

Have you considered deep sea fishing? You dont need to own a sea worthy boat. You dont even have to own deep sea fishing equipment. You can go on a deep sea fishing charter boat. It isnt as expensive as one might think.

You can find deep sea fishing charter companies in most coastal areas. Before you sign up and pay, make sure that you check out the company in question, and ensure that they are not only reputable, but that they are also up to date on their insurance and permits. A good company will provide you with references. The company that you choose should provide all safety equipment as well as fishing gear and bait. They should also be bonded.

Whether you are using a charter service or not, you can fish for a wide variety of deep sea fish, including wolf fish, rockfish, dorado, wahoo, cod, halibut, cusk, shark, swordfish, marlin, sailfish, tuna, pollock, and haddock.

The equipment used for deep sea fishing is very specialized - and heavy. Reels should be capable of holding about three hundred yards of heavy fishing line, in the twelve to thirty pound test range.

If you arent sure what you are fishing for, use the thirty pound test line. Use a hook between 3.0 and 6.0, with 10 to 15 foot leaders. Leaders should be tied to a double line, and should be between 30 and fifty pound test weight.

Deep sea fishing bait includes: ballyhoo, googleyes, dead bait rigs, lures, blue runners, and speedos. You will do better, however, by using live natural prey for the fish you want to catch, including threadfin, sand perch, hermit crabs, mackerel, shrimp, sand eel, mullets, squid, mussels, lugworms, pilchards, and herring.

Unlike fishing for freshwater fish, it is important to handle the bait as little as possible. You dont want your scent on the bait. If you want to catch your own bait, as opposed to buying it, watch the Seagulls and pellicans. They will tell you where the bait can be caught. Ideally, you will need a large net to catch bait.

Before setting out, get the latest weather bulletin. Make sure that you have sunscreen and insect repellent, and that you use appropriate safety equipment and precautions.
